Protection of your personal data

IFLA is based in the Netherlands and for its daily functioning collects and processes data of its members and of those active in IFLA's Professional Units (e.g. Standing Committees, Core Activities).

The Dutch Data Protection Act (Wet bescherming persoonsgegevens -Wbp) addresses the handling of personal data and IFLA is obliged to comply with the Wbp.

In order to use and process the personal data of its members and affiliates IFLA needs you to agree to its Data Protection Policy.

There are three disclosure levels:

  1. Disclose the information that my organisation is an IFLA member, or that I am an IFLA affiliate, to other IFLA members/affiliates.
    • Your permission will allow IFLA to indicate that you are a member to other IFLA members.
  2. Use the data as provided on my IFLA registration/update form for internal usage within the IFLA organisation.
    • Your permission allows IFLA to contact you, send you official correspondence and renewal information.
  3. Disclose my personal data to members, Regional Offices and Section Officers, and third-party partners in EU and non-EU countries. As described in the Data Protection Policy (Question 8) these recipients may be located and registered in part in non-EU countries lacking an adequate level of protection.
    • Your permission allows IFLA to provide your contact details to the Sections you have registered for. Section Officers (Chairs and Secretaries) are required to only use this information for IFLA related correspondence and activities.

To get the most from your membership we recommend that you select / tick all three permission boxes. Failure to select all three permission boxes may result in a decreased level of communication from IFLA staff and Sections.

IFLA takes the security of your member data seriously. Access to the membership database is restricted to IFLA staff members with direct responsibility for membership service or management of the website.

Correspondence preferences

Under Section 11 (7) of the Dutch Telecommunications Act, IFLA must offer you the option of not receiving IFLA-related correspondence. IFLA-related correspondence is:

  • IFLA Journal,
  • IFLA Professional Units newsletters,
  • Annual Report,
  • general interest mailings,
  • communications related to the IFLA annual congress and the Federation’s activities.
